This small but expanding town sits in the Vall d'Albaida within the Communidad de Valencia. It is 60km from Valencia city, 100km from Alicante and 30km from the blue flag beaches of Gandia.

The landscaped gardens of ‘Las Orquideas’ view the town from above. The octagonal tower of the 16th century church dominates the town centre. The town itself is surrounded by predominately Orange and Olive groves with some Almonds, Peaches and Vines. During their stay students can be assured that they will meet many interesting (and extremely friendly) people from Benigánim, all of whom will help to make this a wonderful, relaxing and informative holiday.

The weather pattern here is very stable and, because it is so far away from the stormy Atlantic and near to the warm mass of the Mediterranean, the weather forecaster’s job is relatively easy. Sunny weather tends to linger and it becomes much easier to plan events such as picnics and barbeques.

Valencia enjoys a Californian type climate with the nearby Mediterranean moderating the temperatures so that summer days are usually cooler than those further inland and winter nights stay relatively warm. This means that throughout most of the year staying cool is far more important than keeping warm. The average annual temperature is 17.8°C (64°F ) with average daily highs of 22.3°C (72°F) and lows of 13.4°C (56°F) which compares with a daily average high of 12.8°C (55°F) and low of 6.1°C (43°F) for the UK and Ireland.

Winter in Valencia can bring chilly mornings and a light frost might occur on some nights. The average daily high for the winter months is 16.7°C (62°F) which compares with a numbing average daily winter high of 6.0°C (43°F) in the UK. On average it rains on less than one day a week and even during the darkest months of the year Valencia still receives an average of six hours of sunshine a day rising to over nine hours between April and September.

At ‘Las Orquideas’, February tends to be the coldest month with March possibly the wettest but remember that climate change is affecting everywhere.
